About Me

I first became determined to learn how to crochet in the summer of 2016 after seeing pictures of Sarah Sloyer's dumpling kitties. I conscripted my best friend to help me - meaning, she brought the yarn and pilfered crochet hooks from her mom, and we bunkered down for an easy afternoon of crafting. Long story short, I couldn't even get past the magic circle. One Google search for easy crochet patterns later, I found how to make a simple bow-tie (it was really just a rectangle tied in the middle) and had successfully made a collar of chains to attach it to. My cat wasn't too thrilled by her new accessory.

I can be kinda flighty with my interests and can get frustrated when I at first don't succeed. There usually isn't a try, try again. But the taunting skeins of yarn, left behind by my friend, along with the tiny feeling of success I'd gotten just from being able to chain bolstered me. When I moved out of province to go to university, I brought with me a new set of crochet hooks. In September, I finally conquered the pattern that had first stumped me.
It definitely wasn't the cleanest. I hadn't used stitch markers because I foolishly thought that I could just count and keep track. It turned out a couple inches larger than the pattern said it would. The ends weren't weaved in properly, so they stuck out in the worst places. My embroidery skills really left something to be desired.

But I'd made him, and he was mine. And I learned that the feeling of crafting something with your own hands, seeing it take shape from simple yarn and many, many loops, was incredibly fulfilling.

Now, 3 years later, I've crocheted quite a repertoire for myself, following patterns from all over the internet. After getting some confidence in adapting patterns with my own special touches for Christmas gifts, I've decided to take the next step: designing my own patterns. It's kinda my 2019 New Year's resolution (decided a few months too late).

That's where this blog comes in. Now that I'm making my own projects, I wanted some place to host them. I try to make each pattern with the care and attention to detail I've found in all the other patterns I love. I know that I'm not perfect, and I'm most certainly not the best, but I hope that you'll try these patterns out along with me!
